Apr 18, 2012 – The Buick Human Highlight Reel was created as a way to celebrate NCAA athletes who have made invaluable contributions both on and off the field of play. SB Nation college bloggers were asked to nominate former athletes hailing from their respective schools, with four winners chosen. One of those selected as a Human Highlight Reel honoree is Jordan Sigalet, a former goaltender for Bowling Green University.
Sigalet was exceptional for Bowling Green during his time there, picking up CCHA Goaltender of the Year accolades and setting a record for most saves in a game. He was targeted as a top prospect, but during his 2003-04 junior season, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and told he could no longer play hockey.
Sigalet not only continued to play hockey, but continued to excel, leading his team to their best record in eight years and becoming a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top college hockey player. Beginning in his senior year, Sigalet started organizing fundraisers for MS awareness and leading donation drives.
Sigalet was drafted by the Boston Bruins prior to starting college and realized his lifelong dream when he was called up by the team during the 2006-06 NHL season. He ended up spending three years with the Bruins and another year in a Russian league before retiring.
Following his pro days, Sigalet has set up a charity to raise MS awareness called “Shutout MS.” The organization holds charity hockey events, dinners and auctions, with all proceeds going to the National MS Society.
